Youghal Couple Session
When your buddies ask you to do a Youghal Couple session with them… who are you to say no!?
We met Maria back many moons ago at Electric Picnic, we were just thrown together by circumstance. Since then she has become a life force in our world. In what seems like a short time we have been through so much together and we couldn’t imagine a world with out her or the lovable Tony in it.
One September weekend, we packed our bags, jumped in the defender and began the cross country trip to the stunning seaside town of Youghal in east Cork. Full of excitement, screaming at the traffic to move faster, over the sound of clinking wine bottles in the back… Side note: We bring the wine, they cook the food, because sweet lord above do they cook up a storm! It’s cohesive like that… You see when you are Cork bound to see this dynamic duo, you know you are in for one mighty craic filled weekend.
As much as we were both looking forward to seeing the Youghal contingent, I was a little anxious at the same time. When life friends ask you to capture them, in one of their favourite places, its not as easy as you would think, for some reason the pressure is greater as you really don’t want to mess it up. ALL THE PRESSURE!!!
Thankfully it all went swimmingly… No, there was no actual swimming. Though the waters of Goat Island looked good enough to dive into. The skies were over, sending the landscape in to over drive with rich creamy tones. Which only highlighted these two, as they tried their best to hold it together for a picture or two. All of us were so hyper giggly, we almost died laughing when Tony accidentally bit Maria… Yes, he does love her that much!
We cruised around the cost line in Ziggy, the couples beloved VW Bus. Tony picked out places along the head land, that held childhood memories for him. Maria was busy chatting about their new life in Youghal and places they had found to eat and adventure. Sean provided a “soundtrack” of sorts on a ukulele he found in the back of the bus. As we chatted and laughed, I mused that we were like the famous four on some kind of whacky adventure. All we were missing was a dog. A funny thought that crossed my mind as the spender of Goats Island came into view. It was one of those happy moments in life. The kind you focus on, commit to your memory bank, never to be forgotten.
To capture our friends in a place that they now call home, was an honour. Our friends have moved to one of the most scenic parts of Ireland (Ahem after Kerry, obviously.) We couldn’t been more happy for them. We still can’t look over this session with out getting a little teary eyed. Each image a different sound of laughter, a different emotion, a different story. All combining to tell the tale, of an afternoon of memories with beautiful people.
Maria and Tony we love you guys so very much. We are so excited for everything that is to come in our crazy world of friendship and adventure xxxx
