“Some times reaching out and taking some ones hand is the beginning of a journey. At other times, it is allowing another to take yours.”
Vera Nazarian.
It is so cold in the cottage right now. Well it would be its winter.in.Ireland. Sean and myself are smiling as we look back over Michael and Rebecca’s Roman wedding. It is warming us up no end as we float over these beautiful images. Its the memories of a wonderful few days with the warmest and most welcoming people you could ever hope to meet, that is making us cosy up right now. The laughter and jokes shared. The feeling of friendship and belonging. Though the golden rays pouring from the screen aren’t doing too badly either. Heading over on the plane to Rome was like flying out on a family holiday. You see, we had already Rebecca’s family a few years earlier when we captured her sisters wedding in France. Also, in some respects the trip was full of nostalgia for us. Rome is by far one of our favourite European Capitals. Mike and Rebecca’s wedding was our 10th trip back in so many years. It is a city of love and Romance, where any thing is possible and besides who cant help but get swept up in the cheeky Italian charm. Its one of those places where you chill out and go with the craziness that this accent city has to offer. Rebecca and Mike chose the rustic Castello della Castelluccia as their venue and back drop. An exquisite castle lost amongst the old olive groves and farmland. Only a few minutes from the passionately nosey streets of Rome, this venue was a perfect hide away and reflection of our relaxed couple. Rebecca is such a wonderful soul. Every time I meet her, I am stuck by this quite mystery that surrounds her. A hushed calmness flows about her. Mike is much the same. They both have such wonderful chemistry, when they smile at one another its like watching fire works. It was not surprising then that their day was a gentle, intimate and relaxed affair, surrounded by all their great loves. The food was sumptuous and rich, joyful tears flowed freely as two families celebrated such a beautiful union. In the planning stages of the wedding Rebecca and I spoke of our love of Rome and how clearly ALL the images should be taken in and around the city as well as the country side. We also discussed the space time centime that is a wedding day and how fast those hours fly by. These chats resulted in a very covert operation. The morning after the wedding myself and Sean arrived at Castello della Castelluccia the stars lighting our way very quietly down the drive, Rebecca and Mike jumped in our car and very quietly we drove through the country side and into Rome. The sun was starting to rise as we drove through the city gates. Bakers and other early risers smiled and nodded as we four climbed out of the ridiculously small car yawning and stretching. Were parked at the side of Altare della Patria and made our way through the sleepy streets to the Fontana di Trevi. Of all photo shoots this is one that makes us smile most fondly. Apart from a few service people and bakers starting on their day, we had the streets of Rome all to ourselves. The streets were empty and so so still. I can tell you now there was nothing more fascinating in this world that standing in front of the Fountain with Mike and Rebecca. ( Okay and the one police man) I think we stood there for a long time before setting about our session. Standing on the main street before the Colosseum, was even more bizarre. We have never seen it so so quite. We walked here and there chatting and marvelling at Rome’s morning glory. When the sun was making its final accent and the sirens so familiar to the street began to roar and we decided it was time for some well earned breakfast. Eating fresh pastries and fine Italian coffee I think we were all a bit sad that our session was over, the bubble had been burst. Back we drove to the castle where I am fully sure to this day, that the staff thought we had kidnapped the couple!
Rebecca and Michael thank you so much for the wonderful memories and for that beautiful morning walk. Wishing you all the love and light in the world, always x
