“Love is the whole and more than all” ~e.e Cummings
We have been sitting here for over an hour now, trying to write this blog post. All we have ended up with is sore cheeks from smiling and howling with laughter at some of the memories. It is incredible to think that we were playing “Words with friends” with Alan only a few weeks ago as he sat in hospital in the U.K awaiting the birth of their baby girl. It is marvellous how people can float into your life out of nowhere and it’s like they have always been there. Laughter, that’s what had us hooked that very first day when Jo-Ann rang us to see if we would come to the wee village of Rhoscolyn to capture herself and Alans big day. Laughter is infectious and we swear Jo Ann and Alan haven’t stopped laughing or smiling since the day we met them.
We drove over to Wales, why not yet another adventure! Alan had told us if the tide was in that no normal vehicle would make it across the beach where he would be staying… Sean was like “Challenge accepted”! We arrived a few days out from the wedding and were blessed with beautiful sunshine as we explored the old neighbourhood of Wills and Kate. We can see why the royal couple chose this sleepy place to hide away in. For Our couple, Rhoscolyn is much more than a hide out. Alans parents married in here in this beautiful wee church, they have holidayed here as a family for generations. For Jo Ann and Alan there was no other place in the world to bring their families together.
With peaks of Snowdonia watching over them, Jo Ann and her ladies were cozied up in a dotey cottage getting ready while Alan and his lads prepped the local hall for the day ahead. Potato sacks were laid out for the after dinner race, beanbags, hoops and rings were laid about the place and the bouncy castle installed. We should point out these games were for the grown up children amongst us! Like us Alan and Jo Ann believe that becoming a fully fledged grown up is totally overrated. As much fun and laughter should be had as possible at all times. The couple had even decided that there would be no formal dinner menu, really! To everyone’s glee a fish and chip van arrived along with an ice cream van for dessert!!! A more perfect meal there could not have been. Well, after the competitive sack race, the smell of hog roast became unbearable and there was a race to be first in line for some of that tasty goodness! Later as the stars began to illuminate the skies we warmed ourselves by Swedish logs, delighted with life, warmed by wine and melty good S’mores!
The next day were found ourselves all snuggled up, in a wee house on the edge of the sea, sitting in front of the telly for the Irish match with Alan Jo Ann and friends. That day is a blur of food, table tennis, laughter and such happiness. We are grateful to have met such wonderful genuinely happy people. Their love and light is contagious and now they are three, well the world has a little more to smile about!
